Federal Worker Emergency Relief Loan Program
Hebrew Free Loan is offering a limited number of $1,250 no-interest, no-fee loans to federal government workers who are not being paid due to the government shutdown,
both those furloughed and those working without pay.
All appointments for Tuesday, January 22 are filled. If we have any funds left for this program at the
end of the day, we will reach out to qualified applicants in the order we received the applications. Please do not come to get a loan without an appointment.
Who can get a loan?
Any US government employee who is not being paid due to the shutdown and who:
This program is non-sectarian; you do not need to be Jewish to qualify for a loan.
- lives in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery or Philadelphia County in PA, or Burlington, Camden, Gloucester or Mercer County in NJ.
- has a US government salary of $65,000 or less per year. (This limit has been increased from the original $50,000.)
How do I get a loan?
At this time, we have more applications than funds, so we are not accepting additional applications.
How much does this cost?
This loan costs nothing. There are no fees and no interest will be charged.
How and when do I repay the loan?
The loan is due 90 days after the government re-opens.
Why are you doing this?
A generous donor provided these funds for this purpose. For nearly 35 years, we have helped people who
find themselves in a difficult financial position and need a hand.
